Brussels, 1st November 2011
The European Commission has launched a call for proposals Multilateral Projects, Networks, Accompanying Measures under the Sub-Programmes and Transversal Programme. The new call introduces some innovations e.g. two new activities, Roma Multilateral Projects and Roma Networks as well as eligibility of countries from the Balkan region that can participate in the Lifelong Learning Programme Call 2012. Deadlines for submission of applications for the Sub-Programmes and the Transversal Programme are 2nd February 2012 and 1st March 2012 respectively. EU – BRAZIL HE COOPERATION On 4th October 2011 the EU-Brazil Summit was held in Brussels that resulted in the adoption of a 'Joint Action Plan' aiming to reinforce higher education and research cooperation between both regions. The joint statement emphasises the importance of academic cooperation and mobility, and the need to enhance relations on existing policy instruments and programmes, such as Erasmus Mundus and Marie Curie programmes. FUTURE OF ERASMUS MUNDUS POST-2013 The European Commission has issued a report which summarises the results from the public online consultation on the future EU programme for international cooperation in higher education and human capital development (Erasmus Mundus post-2013). EM-iDEA PROJECT – NEEDS ANALYSIS As we have previously previously announced, the Santander Group is involved in the implementation of the EM-iDEA project Erasmus Mundus community together to disseminate, exchange and act with a role to carry out needs analysis of a an Erasmus Mundus Community that the project is planning to establish. We would like to consult with our members, particularly with SG co-ordinators and partners of current Erasmus Mundus projects, ideas for prospective activities or collaboration areas for the EM Community. We would be grateful for sharing your opinions on the challenges and opportunities of the Erasmus Mundus Programme for students and academics. The results of our inquiry will be further elaborated and presented at the first project conference organised at Ghent University on 23rd November. Please send you comments by 20th November. EAIE ANNUAL CONFERENCE – CALL FOR PROPOSALS Following the Santander Group’s successful participation at the EAIE Conference in Copenhagen, we are launching a call for topics for panel sessions to be presented next year in Dublin. The conferences of the European Association for Higher Education attract annually almost 4000 representatives of higher education institutions worldwide and provide an excellent forum for professional exchanges and networking. The main theme of the EAEI Conference 2012 is Rethinking Education, Reshaping Economies. We are inviting our members to share your institutional expertise in line with professional sections and interest groups set by the organisers. CONFERENCE OF THE AMERICAS ON INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION (CAIE) – 25-28 APRIL 2012, RIO DE JANEIRO The Santander Group has been officially invited to the Conference of the Americas on International Education (CAIE) to be held between 25-28 April 2012 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to present a session and discuss collaboration possibilities between Latin American Science and Technology Parks and SG universities. The SG Secretariat will be setting up a delegation composed of rectors or high level representatives from our members to attend the event. CAIE aims to promote an Inter-American exchange space for leaders of Higher Education institutions, namely to discuss priority issues concerning the internationalization of Higher Education. The event will provide a space for collaboration between different parties involved where benefits of mutual collaboration may be explored. NEW TRAINEE AT THE SG SECRETARIAT We would like to give a warm welcome to a new trainee at our office in Brussels, Juan José García from Spain. He graduated from Law and Business Administration at University of Granada. In 2007 he was awarded an Erasmus grant to study at the University of Liège. More recently, he finished his postgraduate studies in European Law at the Institute of European Studies at the Free University of Brussels. For 5 months he worked as a volunteer at South African NGO for rural development, which resulted in his strong interest in international relations and co-operation.
RESEARCH COLLABORATION OPPORTUNITIES MARIE CURIE ACTIONS – OPEN CALLS The Marie Curie Actions, under the EU's Seventh Framework Programme for Research (FP7), has two ongoing call for proposals, the Marie Curie International Research Staff Exchange Scheme (IRSES) and the Marie Curie Initial Training Networks 2012 (ITN). ANNOUNCEMENT FROM MEMBERS AND PARTNERS CONFERENCE – ENGAGING IN THE MODERNISATION AGENDA FOR EUROPEAN HIGHER EDUCATION – 30TH JANUARY 2012, BRUSSELS The MODERN European platform on Higher Education is organising its final dissemination conference “Engaging in the Modernisation Agenda for European Higher Education” on 30 January 2012 in Brussels. The conference will cover all the outcomes of the MODERN platform and discuss several issues for the modernisation of higher education in terms of further development and governance, and the professionalisation of university management. EU – DRIVERS ANNUAL CONFERENCE EU-DRIVERS is a three-year EU-funded structural project in the EU Lifelong Learning Programme developed under the leadership of the European Centre for the Strategic Management of Universities. The aim of the conference is to discuss on EU policies and programmes for regional innovation, learn about good practices of successful regional interaction, and provide information on funding opportunities under the new EU Programmes in 2014. eLEARNING AFRICA 2012 – CALL FOR PAPERS We would like to inform you of the call for papers for the eLearning Africa (eLA) Conference. eLA is the continent's largest gathering of high-level policy makers from education, business and government engaged or interested in ICT-based education, training and development on the African continent. eLA 2012 will be focus on education, development and sustainability.
